Right wing web site EtherZone.Com recently published a long rant against women in the military that was bizarre even by EtherZone’s standard. William Shields argues that not only should women be excluded from combat, but that they should be barred from military service altogether.
Shields peppers his rant with obnoxious non-sequiturs like this gem,

A few weeks ago I wrote about the problems faced by men who fall behind in their child support payments when they are called up from their reservist positions to serve in time of war. Writing at LewRockwell.Com, Carey Roberts points out the ultimate example of this sort of problem,

Women’s ENews ran an interesting article about the history of women in the U.S. military that included a fascinating statistic about the makeup of Operation Iraqi Freedom — almost 15 percent of soldiers deployed to take part in the war were women.
As Shauna Curphey wrote before the war began, “it will likely be the […]
Women’s ENews ran a lengthy article in early April about the risks of sexual assault against prisoners of war. Much of this tends to focus on what is perceived to be the special risk of sexual assault against female soldiers, with some opponents of women serving in the military going so far as to […]

In March a federal judge ruled unconstitutional an U.S. Army policy that gave preferential treatment in promotion to women and minorities.
The Army’s written policy urged promotion boards to consider “past personal or institutional discrimination” when considering candidates for promotion. A white, male officer passed over for promotion in 1996 and 1997 sued, arguing that […]

Joelle Cowan wrote an article back in December about, of all things, “The Sexuality of Terrorism.” This was not Cowan’s invention, but rather the title of a course being offered by the Department of Women’s Studies at California State University. As Cowan puts it,
Most people never imagined that terrorism had anything to do with […]

Great Britain’s army used to have a sexually segregated training regimen — men and women were held to different physical requirements for strength and other conditioning. The problem was that it turned out many of the women were leaving their basic training without the conditioning necessary to accomplish the tasks they were required to […]

Tampa, Florida-based Central Command, which has authority over U.S. military operations in the Middle East, recently ordered local commanders in the region to revise their policies to reflect that “wear[ing] of the abaya in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is not mandatory but is strongly encouraged and to remove any requirement to wear civilian […]
